My Project: A Year of Volunteering in Botswana

In August 2026, I’m embarking on an extraordinary human adventure: a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) at the Camphill Community Trust in Botswana. For a year, I’ll be supporting 150 children and young adults with autism, Down syndrome, or physical disabilities. For them, this center is more than a school. It’s a home where they grow with dignity, respect, and solidarity.

Why This Project?

Located in Otse, 50 km from Gaborone, the Camphill Community Trust is a unique place where organic farming, craft workshops, and community life transform the daily lives of its residents. My role? To accompany them in their everyday lives:

  • Educational support: Helping them progress in class.
  • Practical activities: Working with them in gardens or workshops.
  • Compassionate presence: Showing them they’re not alone.

How Can You Help?

Together, Let’s Make This Project Possible

Spending a year in Botswana means committing to a human adventure where every gesture counts. Your donation, no matter how small, becomes a collective force that allows me to be fully present for the children and young adults of the Camphill Community Trust.

Every contribution is a sign of encouragement: a way of saying this project deserves to exist. It gives me the means to live this experience with peace of mind, fully dedicating myself to supporting those who need it most. Your support is also a way to show them they matter, that they inspire, and that they’re surrounded.

If this project speaks to you, you can contribute via my online fundraiser. Every donation, big or small, will have a direct and tangible impact.

The Partners Behind This Project

This project is the result of a collaboration with organizations that share a common vision: a world where everyone has their place. Behind it are structures that work daily to create opportunities for those who need them most.

Freunde Waldorf is the organization supporting me on this mission. Every year, they send over 1,700 young volunteers worldwide to schools, social centers, or environmental projects. Since 1976, they’ve supported more than 830 projects with one clear principle: 100% of donations go directly to initiatives on the ground.

The Camphill Community Trust  is where it all comes to life. Located in Otse, this center is much more than just a facility. It’s a living space where children and young adults grow in a warm environment, surrounded by organic gardens, creative workshops, and a tight-knit community. Here, everyone learns at their own pace, with respect and dignity.

What Is an FSJ?

The Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) is a unique experience. This German program allows young people to commit 6 to 18 months to social, educational, or environmental projects—whether in Germany or abroad.

What makes the FSJ so enriching is the full immersion in a world where you learn as much as you give. You discover the reality on the ground, with its challenges and joys, and emerge transformed. It’s a year to develop human skills: listening, patience, creativity, and the ability to see beauty in small things.

For volunteers, it’s a human adventure. It offers the chance to meet inspiring people and contribute to projects that change lives. For host organizations, it’s a new source of energy—a way to continue their mission with enthusiasm and determination.

The FSJ is based on a balance between commitment and support. While volunteers receive accommodation, meals, and a small allowance, it’s often the generosity of those who believe in these projects that makes such experiences possible.

Let’s Make This Year a Collective Story!

This project is a human journey, a story of encounters, sharing, and hope. It starts with a simple idea: giving children and young adults an environment where they can thrive and grow in confidence. For this vision to become reality, it needs you.

Your support—whether moral or financial—will bring this project to life. It will turn this year into a rich experience filled with emotions, learning, and precious moments. Every donation is a seed that will sow joy, progress, and unforgettable memories.

If this project inspires you, you can contribute now. Together, we can make this year a bright time for those who need it most.

To follow this adventure daily, I’ll share my experiences here. You’ll find stories, photos, and moments that define this special year. This blog is also a way to take you with me, so you can live this year by my side.
